When I was a kid, way back in elementary school, we learned about Greek and Roman mythology in school. It was one of my favourite subjects and after learning about it during class time I sought out and devoured every book I could find about it. We never learned anything about Norse mythology, though. When I, eventually, stumbled upon it myself many years later I became as entranced as I had with Greek and Roman mythology. Perhaps more so.

Before I sat down to write this I asked myself why that was – what is it about Norse mythology in particular that makes me love it so much? I thought about it a lot. I still have no idea.

It could be that everything is so big, so exaggerated. I mean, there are literal giants. And snakes as big as the world. And personalities as uncontainable as Loki's, or Odin's. I love the valkyries, fierce and powerful, the twist on zombies that are draugr, Yggdrasill – the tree which holds the whole universe – and Bifrost, the aurora coloured bridge that spans between them. The people and things and the land, they all really intrigue and fascinate me.
