THE 2023 BEST OF BRITISH SF/F BUNDLE

The 2023 Best of British SF/F Bundle - Curated by Lavie Tidhar

Britain has a long history of speculative fiction. One can think of the Gothic being born in the uneasily-dreaming mind of Horace Walpole in 1764; of Shakespeare's fairies in 1605's A Midsummer Night's Dream; or even of the adventures of King Arthur in Geoffrey of Monmouth's 12th century manuscript of the Historia Regum Britanniae. Science fiction itself flourished in the industrial age of the 19th century, with H.G. Wells' The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds still alive and kicking today.

British SF/F has always been somewhat different to its American counterpart. More peculiar, perhaps, a little more reserved. But on this little island off the coast of Europe, tales of wrecked spaceships and ogres, of bio-engineering and A.I., of gunslinging mathematicians and magic are feverishly and expertly written, as I hope this carefully curated collection can demonstrate. If America and Britain are "two countries divided by a common tongue" then it is to the benefit of both, for the speculative fiction of Britain is just as marvellous and strange, while retaining its own unique flavour.

I hope you enjoy the selection presented here as much as I did putting it together!
