THE IN TRANSLATION BUNDLE

The In Translation Bundle - Curated by E.D.E. Bell

Our world is full of stories, being told every day, in every region, in every living language. Through stories we find solace, connection, we learn, and we share. These times, as all times, are difficult for many, but we build hope through storytelling, knowing that the way to lasting peace has always been through people and their stories. We hold hope for ourselves, for each other, and we use what we learn to build action.

Each of the three base books in the bundle is written from and for its culture, understanding also that in translation to English, it will reach greater parts of a diaspora, or even those of common journey, otherwise excluded from the conversation. It also reaches out to those willing to reflect on the differences between our cultures without a need to other or romanticize, and as much to consider the core familiarity of the themes that connect them.

The nine bonus books of the bundle dive much further into exploring medium and perspective, showing that our limitations of genre are less important than our connections of authentic exploration. Prose written by poets, story through song, multi-lingual authors, multi-lingual conversation, popular media, mystery, love, narrative, and experimental form. That, when taken together, paint in color how different humans can be in their essence and in their connections–and yet how similarly human. The conversations we, as a global community, could be having.

It was a global community that brought this collection together. Some of the translations were created for this bundle, others put in digital form for the first time. A community built up around networking, sharing contacts, sharing excitement over possibilities, over what we could make possible. Over hope.

And so with gratitude and wonder, we present twelve stories from around the world, showcasing the beauty and power of a more holistic global community, emphasizing regions and languages underrepresented in big publishing. I hope that the new connections made through curating this bundle, through sharing it, and then through talking about it will build even more pathways to collaboration and excitement for translated works: including in long-form, and including from a broader, less-funded, array of languages.

When we work together, tell stories together, and listen together–we can do anything. I believe that with all my soul.

With warm wishes and in our shared love of storytelling,

– E.D.E. Bell
