It basically rains throughout the story, but the endless variety of the description means it doesn't become tedious. There are some engaging contrasts, between Mr Flood's desire to bring destruction and his ability to create beauty, and his apprentice's desire to do her duty while disliking the rain. It's a magical tale, well told with some wonderful imagery."

Underland 1: The Queen of Stilled Hearts by DeAnna Knippling

"DeAnna Knippling strikes the perfect tone in "Alice's Adventures in Underland: The Queen of Stilled Hearts." One suspects the author was possessed by the spirit of Lewis Carroll while penning this delightful and thoroughly entertaining novel. I have read other Alice/Zombie stories and none of them comes close to achieving what Knippling has in capturing the voice and spirit and absurdity of the original books. If Lewis Carroll had written about zombies, this would be the book! For fans of Alice in Wonderland and zombies and good storytelling. Highly recommended."

Underland 2: The Knight of Shattered Dreams by DeAnna Knippling

"The story continues from The Queen of Stilled Hearts. Alice is older, the story is darker. After suffering two great losses in a row, Alice agrees to be told Mr. Dodgson's latest story. Alice and Dodgson's relationship is a curious one, but a fine, human one, which considering he's a zombie is all the more special. I greatly enjoy the fact that the characters do not blindly love one another or have one emotion when interacting with a particular person. The relationships are complex, no matter how brief.

I love where this story concludes. It seems fitting to me, given the events across the two books. Would definitely recommend, with the added note that you'll likely want to read Lewis Carroll's work or a history of him afterwards!"

"Knippling is clearly a fan of Old Charles Dodgson and knows her stuff, whether it is Dodgson's past or Lewis Carroll's stories and she captured the flavor of the original books nicely while putting her own voice to it. The story moves back and forth between young Alice and grown up Alice with kids of her own, and takes a completely different twist on the story, taking us past the original and on into a behind the scenes look that was adventurous and bold. There are cookies galore in this story for fans of Dodgson and Carroll, and while they might scream "Eat Me", the only danger you are in is losing sleep because you can put it down."
