THE 2025 WRITE STUFF BUNDLE

The 2025 Write Stuff Bundle - Curated by Kristine Kathryn Rusch

When I got into the writing business, it had been stable for decades. Traditional publishing had a monopoly on production and distribution. That part of the industry, based in New York (and London and other capitals for those of you outside of the U.S.), determined what we read, how long the books were available, and where we could buy them.

Traditional publishing still exists. Fortunately, it's not in charge of what we read any longer. Nor is it in charge of what we write. We can write and publish anything we want.

The problem with that—and the glory of it, too—is that the industry changes dramatically from year to year. The things we've learned continue and build on each other (thank heavens) but more and more things get added. The markets expand. You can publish ebooks and paper books and audio books to a wide variety of markets. You can learn how to use Bluesky and figure out how to make TikTok videos. You can…

Well, you get the idea. Even I, with decades of experience behind me, get overwhelmed.

We can't do it all…at least, not by ourselves.

And the problem is that we all got into this business because we love making up stories, not because we want to learn how to upload an audio book.

This bundle can help. We have books that assist with time and career management. T. Thorne Coyle's The Midlist Indie Author Mindset will help you figure out what you want with your writing career. Then, Tonya D. Price's The Writer's Business Plan (revised, updated, and exclusive to the bundle!) will help you organize that career. And Robert Jeschonek's Authors and Interns explains how to get help when you need it. (And believe me, we all need it at one point or another.)

Of course, we all want to acquire new skills so we can do as much of this ourselves as possible. I think of that as the indie author mindset. So if, like me, you love audio, J. Daniel Sawyer will help you navigate the ever-changing world of audio production, podcasting, and more. He has updated his very useful Making Tracks to reflect the modern market. Kelly A. Harmon, writing with Vonnie Winslow Crist, will help you sell more fiction and teach you How To Write For Anthologies.

And then, there's my Closing The Deal—On Your Terms which will help you negotiate all those pesky licensing deals. I'm not a lawyer, but I do know how to understand the gobbledygook that folks throw at you in the middle of a negotiation.

Every year in this bundle, I have transition books that take us from the business/career side to the craft side of the industry. This year, we have two. The first is Dean Wesley Smith's Stages of a Fiction Writer. The this little gem shows the various stages fiction writers go through, and maps a course that will keep writers focused on learning their craft. B.A. Paul illustrates how going through those stages feels with her Life All Over Again. I guarantee it'll make every indie writer feel less alone.

And DeAnna Knippling offers guidance through Enrichment Activities, a kind of practical guide to keeping yourself focused

Then there is the craft piece We've included the latest online offering from WMG Publishing—The Kris & Dean Show Goes To The Movies: Back To The Future.. Dean and I go through the entire movie piece by piece to show writers everything from building characters to information flow.

So there you have it. The 2025 Write Stuff StoryBundle, guaranteed to help you through the difficulties of the writing business in this chaotic year.

And since the year is chaotic, we've chosen a charity that puts food in people's stomach in disaster zones. World Central Kitchen describes itself this way: first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. As I write this, they're on the ground in Missouri and Kentucky (as well as so many other places) to help after the devastating tornados there. WCK has served 450 million meals and counting.

I hope you pick up the bundle, and as you do, throw a dollar or two at WCK on your way out. You'll be helping people as you help yourself.

Thanks so much! – Kristine Kathryn Rusch
