He was gone. And she would never see him again.

The grand hall of Eolowen's glistening white walls felt hollow and empty against Parrish blue skies and billowing Constable clouds, the soft wind cold against Talia's face.

Her heart ached as she lay in the mossy green grass beside the winding stream. A willow tree swayed in the breeze that carried the soft scent of roses and honeysuckles as her tears gleamed like pearls against the thick silvery-green blades of grass. Glowing in the white-gold light of her spinning halo.

Her wings flattened against the grass and she didn't have the will or the desire to lift them into the wind. She didn't want to fly. Or soar across the sky. She would never soar again.

Not without Jack.

She watched several members of the death angel's guard flit across the sky, casting rivulets of white-gold light across the willow tree's shade as they passed overhead, Azrael leading the way.

It had been three angel days since Lucifer took Jack from her arms.

From the Malibu beach house as she and Jack were about to do their royal escape couple's challenge for The Ever After Hour reality TV show. It had been the final challenge and they were against good friends, Armand Gianni and Isabella Castilla.

Win or lose, Jack planned to find a new place. For her and him.

And she planned to spend a lifetime with him. When she lost Lucifer's wager and had her wings and halo taken by Azrael, she never expected her wings and halo to return. She thought her fall from Heaven was permanent. But she had Jack and he was everything she'd ever wanted.

But then her wings began growing back. And her angel powers began to return, strangely mirrored in Jack. Apparently, it had all been part of Lucifer's plan from the very first wager. A test. To regain his halo and wings. So he could march against the Heavens and take them over—finish what he started millennia ago.

And now, she'd lost Jack forever.

He'd sacrificed himself to free her from Lucifer's hold. Then Lucifer and his demons dragged Jack away to Hell.

Her halo hummed, churning with white light, and sparkled with blue, lavender, and green bursts. Green. A watercolor green, soft and pale. Like Jack's eyes. Her eyes welled with fresh tears.

She ached all over, her heart in shreds, the pain so deep and pervasive she couldn't move as it thrummed alongside the oscillation of her halo.
